Mole Rats and Meerkats
This is a piece I wrote for a 100-word creative writing competition earlier in the year. I did have a better idea, but by the time I came to sit down and write it, I didn't have the brainpower for it (alas). So instead I threw together something silly and alliterative in blank verse! It didn't win anything, but now that means I can share it with you. Yay!
Millenniums and more have passed, my kit,
Since many military mishaps 'twixt
The mighty meerkats and the ratty moles
Were mounted in most monstrous manners all.
Such menace and malevolence, alas,
Made mournful, mousy milksops common here.
The meerkats marched upon the moles' hills tall,
And then the mole rats razed their mazes down.
For shame! the meerkats hissed and moaned.
You shame yourselves, the mole rats mocked in turn.
The manifested clamour then moved out
Across the market square and through the marsh.
In musing moments, one may hear them still,
The mole rats and the meerkats making war.
