One of the key elements of vivid writing, especially poetic writing, is focusing on detail. It makes your writing feel more concrete and real, but also gives your emotional beats significantly more heft. Of course, too many details can bog your writing down and obfuscate the important things, so the really difficult task is figuring out which details you want to drill down into and how to bring them out for your readers.

Finding those useful details, and getting them right, can be the thing that lifts your writing from "fairly good" to "great". But how do you get them right?
